Supreme Court Affirms Sanwo-Olu’s Victory As Authentic Lagos Gov

The Supreme Court has upheld the election victory of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, affirming the decisions of both the tribunal and the Appeal Court in the State.

The case brought by the Labour Party candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, centered on the qualification of Sanwo-Olu’s running mate, Obafemi Hamzat.

The court further stated that the renunciation of citizenship, if any, must be officially registered by the Nigerian president, and the appellant failed to provide evidence of such registration.

The appeal by the Labour Party candidate was dismissed by the court, deemed lacking in merit.

Another contention came from Abdulazeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, of the PDP. He argued that the name submitted by Sanwo-Olu to INEC differed from the one on his WAEC certificate.

The Supreme Court, dismissing this appeal, described it as “academic.”

With both appeals dismissed, the court’s decision solidifies Sanwo-Olu’s position as the duly elected Governor of Lagos State.
