Ahead of her 11th National Conference, selected members of Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) will converge at Ikeja, Lagos state, to participate in a two-day capacity-building workshop for media and communication scholars and professionals in the Southern region of Nigeria.
The workshop, which runs from July 23-24, 2025, is the second leg of a collaborative capacity development initiative between ACSPN and the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), Abuja. The initiative, birthed at the 10th Annual Conference in Lagos, has as its theme, “Mainstreaming AI in Media Education: Reimagining Journalism and Communication” and features brainstorming lectures delivered by experts in the field of AI.
Thirty members of the Association, selected from institutions and media organisations in the south-west, south-east and south-south, according to a statement signed by ACSPN’s General Secretary, Dr Solomon Oyeleye, will attend the workshop.
According to Oluwapelumi Oginni, CJID’s AI Initiative Manager, the Lagos workshop will feature a panel to be anchored by popular media personality, Kayode Otitoju of Channels Television. The panel is made up of four distinguished media and communication scholars and educators who will reflect on AI adoption issues from their institutional standpoints.
Both the Executive Director of CJID, Akintunde Babatunde, and National President of the ACSPN, Professor Rotimi Olatunji expressed great excitement and delight to partner on the programme, describing the Abuja version as highly impactful.
Olatunji noted that the earlier workshop helped to re-skill and upskill participants with the knowledge and tools required to thrive in a technology-driven environment.
With participants drawn from the southern region and the 11th annual conference holding in Warri, the National President expressed the hope that the workshop will also serve to energise members from the region to mobilise extensively for a greater outing.
Members of the Association drawn mainly from institutions and media organisations in the North- Central, including the FCT, North- West and North- East geo-political zones of the country had earlier participated in the workshop in Abuja, from November 28-29, 2024.
